PROPOLIS (bee glue) Honey, 10 g

The bee produces propolis to seal in crevices and isolate foreign objects in the hive. It collects propolis most often from sticky buds of poplar, birch, alder. Useful ingredients: resins, balms, essential oils, waxes, pollen. Propolis has a bactericidal, anti-inflammatory, immunity-strengthening effect.

Propolis is a complex substance that bees produce from plant resins, adding their own enzymes, and is used to disinfect the hive, protect against diseases and microbes, and also as glue - strengthen the walls of combs, fill up cracks, etc. Propolis has a bitter taste and a pleasant resinous smell. Its color depends on which plants the bees collected the resin from. For example, poplar resin gives propolis a reddish hue, birch - greenish, aspen - gray. There are also brown, brown and even almost black propolis. Therefore, those who decide to buy propolis should not be scared by the variety of its colors.

Propolis contains many different substances and compounds, which are divided into four groups according to their general properties: balms, resins, essential oils, wax.

Propolis resins consist mainly of organic acids and make up 50 - 55%. Organic acids (caffeic, freulic, benzoic, etc.) are biologically active substances, have anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiseptic effects. Due to the high content of organic acids, propolis has pronounced antioxidant (antioxidant) properties.

The content of essential oils is 8 - 10%. They determine the aroma and, in part, the taste of propolis. The consistency of propolis depends on the wax content in it. On average, it is about 30%. But in different places of the same hive, the content of wax in propolis is different. Most of the wax is in propolis, which is collected at the entrance and on the walls of the hive, and less is in the one that is removed from frames and canvas.

Propolis also contains minerals: potassium, calcium, sodium, magnesium, phosphorus, sulfur, aluminum, iron, vanadium, zinc, etc., as well as vitamins - Bl, B2, PP, E, C and provitamin A.

Most of the substances found in propolis belong to the class of flavonoids - compounds found in plants. They have antioxidant properties and are capable of neutralizing free radicals.

Thanks to its unique composition, propolis has numerous healing properties that have long been used in folk medicine and apitherapy. The main property of propolis is bactericidal. It suppresses activity and destroys a wide range of microorganisms, including tubercle bacillus, viruses and fungi. At the same time, the native microflora of the body is preserved. Unlike antibiotics, there is no danger of dysbiosis when taking propolis. It is advisable to buy propolis and use it together with antibiotics in cases where it is impossible to do without taking antibiotics. Propolis will preserve the intestinal microflora and prevent dysbiosis.

Propolis has anti-inflammatory properties, enhances immunity, increases the level of gamma globulins in the body, and has antitoxic properties. Therefore, it is recommended to use it for viral infections and various poisonings. In addition, propolis is an excellent pain reliever, it is good as a local anesthetic in the treatment of diseases of the oral cavity, damage to the gastric mucosa (gastritis), otitis media, treatment of wounds, burns and frostbite.

Propolis accelerates the formation of tissues in case of damage, which is used in cosmetology, strengthens the walls of capillaries, improves the natural permeability of the skin, heals abscesses and suppuration, accelerates the processes of absorption, helps to regulate blood coagulation processes.

With psoriasis, fungal diseases, insect bites, propolis reduces itching. It is useful for athletes, the elderly and children, as it restores and maintains the elasticity and flexibility of connective tissue, interchondral fibers and inter-articular surfaces.
