Michel Albergo was a pioneer in the field of natural dyes, he found a way to protect the hair structure by reducing chemical ingredients and using some plant extracts. By the end of the 1960s, Mr. Albergo had an industrial formula for the production of permanent hair dye based on plant extracts, free of ammonia and with an extremely low content of hydrogen peroxide. This extraordinary formula is able to provide perfect coverage of gray hair from the first application without damaging the hair structure and providing natural results.

Hair coloring is achieved by opening the cuticle of the hair shaft and applying permanent color pigments from the paraphenylenediamine (PTds) series, followed by an oxidation process due to hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is just water with an extra oxygen molecule.
Traditional dyes are based on ammonia, they color aggressively and when injected into the hair shaft, the pigment opens the cuticle, raising the pH level of the hair. This process can be rapid, however, as the cuticle is damaged under extreme pH conditions, the structure of the hair cuticle is destroyed. As a result, after coloring, damaged, dry, brittle hair is obtained.
Shampoos and conditioners used later will be infused with silicones to artificially restore the condition and shine of the hair.
How is Herbatint different?
Herbatint's unique formula is designed for permanent coloring without ammonia. Instead, plant extracts such as cinchona extract raise the pH of the hair to no more than 8.5, which means that no structural damage is observed during cuticle opening.
Permanent color pigments are deposited in the hair shaft by oxidation using hydrogen peroxide (simply water with an additional oxygen molecule H2O2).
Aloe vera, walnut, rhubarb plant extracts provide antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and conditioning qualities during the coloring process.
After the dyeing time is over and the hair is thoroughly rinsed, then the Herbatint Royal Cream hair conditioner is applied, which restores and completely seals the cuticles opened during the dyeing process. Due to the absence of ammonia, structural damage does not occur, so the hair is restored to a natural, healthy state and beautifully colored.

Herbatint was ranked as the least toxic hair color on the market by an independent study (read study details).
However, like all permanent hair dyes, Herbatint contains paraphenylenediamine, which is classified as an allergen, so it is recommended to check for sensitivity before each test. Allergic reactions can occur in a small percentage of the population, both after first use and after many years of use.
