Organic food - or how we are fooled

“Organic food - or how we are fooled” “This is what your organic products are” are examples of manipulation articles with a bright headline, where not the whole truth is written, but the TRUTH! And for people who are insignificantly versed in the issue - this becomes the FULL truth.

FIRST THESIS - “there are simply no inorganic products” You can also say that everything around is chemical, since it consists of chemical elements. It's just that sometimes words become terms and then they can have some specific meaning, in this case organic products (in some countries the terms bio (France) or eko (Scandinavia) are adopted) - products obtained in the course of conducting organic production in accordance with current legislation are simpler speaking certified products made without the use of mineral fertilizers, pesticides and GMOs.

SECOND THESIS - “manure and nitrate are one and the same. Chemical fertilizer (nitrates) can be easily calculated by quantity, and manure, if used incorrectly, will also bring harm. " And manure can also be contaminated, and yet, which the author did not mention, the quality of manure depends on what the animal ate from under which this manure was obtained (in organic production, special attention is paid to this).

"Organic food is cheating, don't be fooled!"

yagoda

OK. With half-truths, everything is clear and, as you know, it is much more dangerous than a complete lie:
The article mentions "nitrates" and everything is absolutely correct - they are the same for any cultivation. But this is just one moment that the author caught on to develop the topic. Each substance that a plant uses is contained in the soil (or manure) in an easily digestible form and a difficult to digest form. Also, there are substances, microorganisms, and a bunch of earth inhabitants, which contribute to the absorption of nutrients by the plant or the transition from a difficult to an easily digestible form. And it is difficult for a plant to "overfeed" with the same nitrates.
In "chemical" fertilizers, substances are supplied in an easily digestible form and ALWAYS with at least a triple supply. If they are also served with an aqueous solution, then the plant cannot stop and not consume them, continuing to pump itself up with food that it does not need at all.

Thus, the process of plant growth, ripening is accelerated, the fruits become larger, but less tasty.

In addition to this, when hydroponics was invented, researchers have empirically determined that the plant only needs the three elements Potassium, Phosphorus and Nitrogen. Indeed, a plant can grow on these three elements, but what nutritional value will it have for humans? The same? Likewise, deciding that it is enough for a person to drink vitamins and protein.

To understand the difference between organic and chemical fertilizers, you should read the composition on the packages. In the case of organic, many elements will be present, in chemical - 3-5.

There is not a word about pesticides in the "incriminating article", and this is the main harm of chemical cultivation. The simplest example is the use of RoundUp for weed control. When processing soybean fields with this tool, EVERYTHING (except for the soybeans itself) dies - both weeds and pests. In such fields, it is always deadly quiet, because there are no living ones there. And this substance does not decompose in one season, but directly enters our body. This is the simplest but well-known example.

In organic cultivation, such substances are prohibited, therefore, there are more efforts to obtain a crop. The farmer has to use the correct agricultural techniques, natural remedies, and sometimes trivial physical labor to remove pests or weeds. Hence the higher price.

fermaAbout manure. Overfeeding the plant with manure is difficult, but chemical fertilization is simple. Still, the rest of the article is true, but only concerns fresh (!) Manure, which no one in their right mind will apply to the field. The manure is processed by bacteria that promote its decomposition, and it is turned over to let in oxygen and give work to the aerobic bacteria. Therefore, all these horror stories have very dubious grounds and are shown one-sidedly.

In addition, in organic farming, green manures (green fertilizers) and leguminous cover crops (clover, vetch) are used as a source of nitrogen, using the natural properties of bacteria to fix nitrogen from the air. Not a word about this in the article.

And finally, as one of our organic farmers Andriy Marchenko said, “Industrial and organic vegetables are similar only in shape and color. By smell, taste and useful properties, "chemical" are not even close to real natural. "

And we are convinced of this, every time we taste the organic fruits, vegetables and berries that we offer you. And if you have a desire to know even more about organic products, we invite you to see the organic farm with your own eyes and ask any questions to the farmer in our annual #organicatures in September, as well as read the farm reviews on our blog.
